Glenn Beck needs your support, now more than ever. Make your checks payable to GoldLine International, Beck’s favorite charity? Gold fell steadily in price from 1980 to 1999. Now gold is in an up cycle. In this cycle Beck ‘reports’ on ‘golden issues’ just before the GoldLine International commercials.

It was called Payola, a crime at one time.

Payola has come to mean the payment of a bribe in commerce and in law to say or do a certain thing against the rules of law, but more specifically a commercial bribe. The FCC defines “Payola” as a violation of the sponsorship identification rule that recently resulted in tens of millions of dollars in fines to cable corporations in New York.

The radio era of ‘payola’ coincided with Elvis Presley and Rock n Roll music. Payola was a bride to get favorable treatment.

Rand Paul, Tea Party candidate wants your help as well. Please send your checks to the NAACP. Paul is very concerned about racial discrimination in government. But not in private industries like restaurants. As heard on Fox News in defense of Rand Paul, “If a private business wants to say ‘we don’t want any blonde women or mustached guys,’ it ought to be their right.”

Maybe Fox News wants your help. Is being blonde and female racial? The Civil Rights Act of 1964 doesn’t take any rights away from blonde-aphobics. The Act does forbid a sign at the front door of a restaraunt banning tan skin in any shade.

“Whites Only” is the issue for Fox News and Rand Paul. We have the right to refuse service to those without shoes or shirts. No one ever had a ‘Right’ to be a racist. Never.

Rand Paul is not a racist. He just thinks racists have had their rights trampled by the Federal government. Hmmmmm.

Just a little too personal for a good blog entry, but I’m going to rant on a personal level.

Two of my co-workers ‘jumped’ on me this morning because “Obama did it! He just bankrupted the entire nation. It’s over.”

Well, if it’s over, why bring it to my attention? Until you have the “I told you so” moment when health care reform causes default, SHUT UP!

Then in the first meeting of the day, I got the ‘real insider dope’ type speech on why Obama is going to get shot. By Blacks.

I don’t know quite how to phrase this people. People who scream and yell don’t get my pity. If that’s even what they want from me. The two angry white males with big mouths talking about the upcoming Black on Black lynching don’t even know my name. Gee whiz guys. Let me get my butcher knife out before assuming I like blood and guts. As if I carry a butcher’s knife to company meetings. Or a white sheet.

I’ve been hearing the end of the world predictions since November. The end of our way of life. The end of Obama’s life. End of gun rights. etc etc etc …

All of you’all can shut up until it happens. Then you can SHOUT, “I told you so!”

Until the real crisis hits, keep your voice down in the work place.

This is the breaking news headline at accessnorthga.com this morning.

Why would this be news?

Or

Is it a warning?  You white folk better start making whoopie or the minorities are going to take over our country.  And you know they will vote the democratic ticket.

Oh! Horror!  We will have to change the way we think.  The way we govern.  Who my child takes to the prom?

Good grief!  I grew up in Forsyth with the KKK and MLK day marches, and though I am not naive enough to think racism is dead and go, surely we are past our media sending out warnings to the public.

The final kiss good bye won’t come until the primary, but Former Representative Nathan Deal has made 314,000,000 people happy. He resigned from Congress after parts of three decades of dead weight.

Mr. Deal as a Congressman has been like a 10 pound bag of dog food being carried on the back of a Korean female figure skater in the 2010 Olympics. Yeah, the skater can still perform but nothing fancy. And that is the REal DEal for Nathan Deal. He showed up and asked questions like, “Have you ever seen Obama’s birth certificate?” Not nearly as racist as coming right out and saying, “He don’t even know who his father really is!”

Is it racist to ask if Obama has a birth certificate? The first time it was asked, No. Once the issue was settled by Hawaii, Yes. There no longer was any rational excuse to continue questioning the President’s lineage . He has a mother, a father, and a birth certificate from one of the 50 States.

What the hell else did Deal want to know? Nothing. He just wanted to keep hitting the racist point that black children never really know their daddies. And that ‘the mothers never know who really fathered those welfare brats.’

When will the racist pandering ever stop for white males from Nathan Deal’s generation? Never. As long as those geezers are still breathers, they’ll be birthers.

It’s a shame Hall County will someday offer this great man a six foot deep plot of real estate for a resting place.

Oh boy! Did someone really try to do that? Yes, in the Gainesville Times Letters to the Editor.

Robert E. Lee who did not want former slaves to have a vote in the post Reconstruction Era gets praised equal to Martin Luther King who wanted every American to have an equal part in democracy.

King is called famous for “disobedience, disorder and civil unrest.” But Fred N. Chitwood thinks Lee should be praised for leadership in armed rebellion that claimed a million lives. Absolute violence versus non-violent protest? Praise war!

Fred Chitwood claims that Lee “completed his studies at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point without so much as one demerit. He is the only cadet to have accomplished this remarkable feat.”

In fact, the year that Lee graduated, five cadets passed without any demerits. Others who graduated without a single demerit are equals of Lee including these Civil War enemies, Generals George Meade and William T. Sherman. (The Journal of Military History 70.3 (2006), pp. 841-842) (more…)

Courtesy of The Liberal Curmudgeon, let’s look at statements from Sonia Sotomayor and Justice Samuel Alito.

Sotomayor: “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

Alito: “Because when a case comes before me involving, let’s say, someone who is an immigrant — and we get an awful lot of immigration cases and naturalization cases — I can’t help but think of my own ancestors, because it wasn’t that long ago when they were in that position. …When I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or because of religion or because of gender. And I do take that into account.”

So why are Republicans screaming that Sotomayor is racist, but think Alito is a hunky-dory fella?

They are cut from the same whole cloth. If one of these statements are racist, then both must be.

Rep. Nathan Deal wants to change the 14th Amendment.

A Congressman who firmly believes that the Constitution should not be changed (because it is perfect in its current form) wants to change the one portion that was purposely written to protect the rights of minority citizens in the United States.

And he’s from the South! Another shocker!

BONUS: Guess who else hated citizenship by birth?

With the election of the first African-American President, there has been a lot of soul-searching regarding the state of race relations in our country.

Living in one of the most conservative areas of the state (heck, the country even), I’ve heard the water cooler talk among regular folks who are also coming to terms with our nation’s prejudices. Our history defines us, even as our present changes. Americans like to look in the rear-view mirror while also navigating the present path. It’s like rush hour on 285- you’re constantly looking forward and backward, while trying not to crash in the present.

In my life, it seems that people who truly look beyond skin-color are the ones who don’t mention it much. Every person is regarded on his or her own merits, and if skin color is an issue, it’s buried deep beneath more pressing concerns- character, intellect, whatever benchmarks are important at the time. While not completely color-blind, they are at least color-apathetic.

However, the people who do still harbor racism from our past are the ones most likely to comment inappropriately on the historic nature of our time.

For example, I was recently sent a borderline racist email regarding our President-Elect. Before the “joke”, this person typed, “I thought this was funny. I’m not a racist/ I even sent this to my black friends!!!” as if this excuse was an inoculation against any charges of impropriety.

The joke? A fake memo from Obama declaring that all white people would be required to report to the cotton fields by 10 am on January 20.

First, the joke wasn’t funny. My sense of outrage was less offended than my sense of humor, which was deeply offended. If you’re gonna try to make me laugh, at least have an idea what I find funny.

Secondly, if you’re truly not racist, then why send anything that has racism as a major point of the fricking joke? Would a litany of dead baby jokes be less offensive if it was preceded by “I thought this was funny. I have five kids!!!”?

Finally, I can only imagine the black friend who allegedly received this email. Perhaps this person is toiling away at their desk job, balancing the company concerns and daily workload while the presidency, racism, and politics remain the furthest thing in their mind. Perhaps this person is engrossed in numbers and balance sheets and expense reimbursements, and receives an email entitled “FUNNY! You Wanna See This!!” and thinks, yeah, I could use a dose of the funny right now.

And then they click. And see that one doofus in their email list decides to revisit 200 years of slavery, and dominance, and oppression with a stupid joke preceded by “I’m not racist!!!”

Does this African-American person think “wow, that’s funny!”

Or do they think, “that asshole, I can only imagine what he says when I’m not around?”
