Gainesville announced another painful step to balance the budget. Yesterday, six more people lost a job.

This morning, some very selfish people are celebrating those cuts. You’ve heard them celebrate a lot during the economic crisis. They have always been saying that government is too big, too expensive, and hurts the free market.

Remember the ‘Free Market?” The greatest human invention ever! ! “Free markets” cure cancer, acne, and baldness. For a price.

That is the very nature of the ‘free market,’ to sell anything to anybody at anytime, without regulations. Regulations like safety. Really… Serious things like Listeria monocytogenes. Ever hear of it? Not afraid of it? Think a food recall ordered by the FDA is wasteful?

Eat some Listeria monocytogenes. Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. But, gosh what’s a few miscarriages, still born children, and the death of a few chemo therapy patients? The ‘free markets’ will eventually punish the manufacturers and retailers, if … there’s really a problem.

How about a little E. Coli with your beef products? Or salmonella with your bacon? Or botulism with your carrot juice?

Any deaths are just the price of doing business. Right? The markets don’t need that expensive and intrusive government regulation. Why … geez … it doesn’t really do any good. It just raises the price of … contaminated food and good food.

So let the buyer be ware! And dog eat dog.

And those people who were laid off yesterday in Gainesville? Our good Republican friends tell us to celebrate the elimination of the lazy, the inefficient, and the worthless dead weight.

Haven’t you heard?
