From Political Insider:

Deal said health care reform:

“….deserves at least as much time and deliberation as it would take to select a puppy to reside in the White House.

It took the president six months to decide…which puppy he was going to have. To expect Congress to do something on major health care reform in six days is totally irresponsible.”

First of all, Obama has been talking health care reform for years. Congress too. When does Deal’s mythical “six months” begin?

Second, it’s been a general goal of the Democratic Party since one of FDR’s State of the Union speeches, so one could actually say that it’s been a 60+ year policy goal.

Finally, it’s dishonest to claim that Congress is moving too fast. Congress has moved too slow.

Update: Of course, Erickson feels completely differently and praises Deal’s leadership.
