Recently, I wrote a post on the Budget Crisis here in Georgia.  The post got very little response.  Now I know that the budget isn’t sexy, but I think the problem is that people do not realize how it is affecting them.

First, the Governor has called for a 3% cut to state agencies.  What does this mean?

Well, remember that constitutional right to a fair and speedy trial?  Not in Georgia.

Amendment 6 – Right to Speedy Trial, Confrontation of Witnesses. Ratified 12/15/1791.

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

How about state patrol?  Well, state patrol will be taking two furlough days a month.  Ouch!  Oh and the DNR is going to have to lay off 27 more people.

Okay let’s get serious.  What about your tax refund?  We can’t even return money to our citizen due to this crisis.  That ought to fire up the GOParanoid.

So still don’t think we need to do anything?  If we keep our head in the sand, this problem will go away.  The problem is so will everything else.
