Under the Voting Rights Act, Georgia is one of several states that has to get pre-clearance to make changes to our voting laws. After a couple hundred years of slavery/racism/etc, the courts thought maybe we shouldn’t be making our own voting laws independent of some Federal oversight.

The Justice Department today used the power under the Voting Rights Act to nix the new GA law that require prospectives voters in the state to provide proof of citizenship.

My take on the whole nutty idea was posted in mid-January.
