The San Francisco Chronicle may close within the next few weeks.

Newspapers have been getting hammered for years, much like radio stations. Both of them have been partially replaced by the same thing- the quick and free distribution of material through the internet.

There’s a growing desire by many to explore micro-payments as a form of rescuing the newspaper industry. Simply put, it would require payments of a few pennies or less in order to access newspaper content on the web.

So, would you pay a penny a day to read your local paper on the web? Or the New York Times? How about a fraction of a penny?

There’s been a ton of bloggers weighing in on their opinions; it’s seen as a way for blogs to monetize their content without going the Google AdWords route.

Doing some research on it now. Not sure what to think.
